Canadian smartphone manufacturer RIM on Thursday claimed that it had fixed the BlackBerry outage harassed million of users across five continents for more than three days.
But, the BlackBerry has another exhausting task at hand- regaining the trust of its customers.
The already-vulnerable customer base of the smartphone maker received a callous dent in its reputation due to the recent outage, which left BlackBerry users in Europe, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Middle East, India and many African countries without access to Internet and messaging and emailing services.
Many angry BlackBerry users said that they were reconsidering whether or not to stick to BlackBerry. Some customers even flooded social networking sites like Twitter, threatening that they would to renounce the BlackBerry to go for a new alternative.
Chief technology officer Rick Okin, of New York-based ad agency Epic Marketplace, had to make use of Apple’s iPad to stay in touch of his emails.
Around 80 per cent of the total devices used by Epic Martketplace employees are BlackBerrys, but the outage forced them to think of an alternative.
Speaking about the possibility of finding an alternative, Mr. Okin said, "I think that's going to change."
Any loss in RIM’s customer base will definitely benefit rivals like Apple iOS and Google’s Android platforms, which have been stretching their respective market shares at unprecedented rates.
