According to the findings of a new survey by Nielsen, multitasking while watching television is fast becoming common among the Americans, with the majority of them using their tablets, smartphones, and e-readers, alongside viewing a TV show!
Going by the statistics shared by Nielsen, 42 percent of the tablet-owners, 40 percent of the smartphone-owners, and 14 percent of the ereader-owners in the US use their respective devices every day when are watching television.
However, the survey also underscored that the other attention which people give to hand-held devices broke down along gender lines --- with nearly 50 percent of the women, as compared to just about one-third of the men, admitting that they browsed social networking sites during TV programs and commercial breaks. In addition, while 44 percent of men checked sports while watching TV shows, only 17 percent women did so.
The figures also revealed that nearly one-third of both men and women who indulge in multitasking while watching TV have admitted that they use their devices chiefly to check their email – the most common activity, other than TV, which apparently is always on their minds.
On the basis of the findings, the survey by Nielsen concluded that most of the Americans who use their smartphones, tablets, and e-readers simultaneously while watching TV seemingly try to maximize their productivity and entertainment while a TV show is going on!
