Surgery is The Best Treatment Option for Epilepsy, says Study

Surgery is The Best Treatment Option for Epilepsy, says StudyRecently, the UCLA's Geffen School of Medicine researchers made a very surprising claim, which certainly proved as a boon for all the patients who from a long time were suffering from the deadly epilepsy tribulations.

In their study the researcher accounted that if these patients opt for the surgical procedures, then certainly their life expectancy graph got stretched.

However, all these claims came to limelight after these researchers tracked almost 615 patients suffering from the fatal disease. During their study trials they were surprised to find that as compared to other patients, about 51% of the patients who underwent an operation procedure certainly augmented their life expectancy graph up to 5 years and in some cases, even this graph was prolonged till ten years.

In the meantime, the researchers affirmed that their study findings also highlighted the fact that even the multi medication handling became unsuccessful to cure these patients.

Sharing his views, the Assistant Professor of neurology at UCLA's Geffen School of Medicine, Dr. Christine Bower Baca, accounted that even though these surgical methods have been proved to be the key tool but at the same time it also gives a contradicting statement, which says that for these surgical procedures all the patients have to wait for a long time.

Meanwhile, the Chair of the board of directors of the Epilepsy Foundation, Dr. Brien Smith, commented, “Epilepsy surgery is a very appropriate option to look at once a patient has been deemed medically refractory, and neurologists should be referring more than they are”.
