Health Records of Patients to Be Shifted on Electronic Database

Health Records of Patients to Be Shifted on Electronic DatabaseWith the pursuit of properly maintaining the records of the patients, the North Yorkshire NHS has decided to shift all the records to electronic database. The trust is hopeful that the move would help in removing any confusion to understand and to find the previous health record of the patients.

The assistant director of informatics, Angela Wood is of the view that the electronic database system would save the time of the doctors in finding the records of the patients. Angel wood was reported saying, "When the new database starts to save lives, hopefully the concerns about the new procedures will diminish".

Previously, there have been many cases in which doctors have failed to find the record soft the patients. Moreover in a previous case, the records of patients were allegedly thrown out from the hospital as garbage.

From last 18 months, the concerned authorities have been planning to introduce the electronic database. It has been informed that the electronic database would be accessed only by the NHS staff which has the accurate smartcard for accessing the database.

However, patients would not be allowed to access their health record through electronic database. Instead, they would be emailed about their health related concerns.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the debt being faced by the NHS services in Yorkshire has been reduced by £18m. The Yorkshire's NHS services had been facing debt since decades. In 2009-09, the services were provided with a bailout plan which didn't do much for it.

A health spokesperson said that the reduced debt value shows that the NHS services of Yorkshire have been doing quite well in getting rid of its debt. The NHS has now set a goal of saving £23m in its primary care trust so that it could get rid of the remaining debt.
