The reef disaster is going to take a while before things get back to normal, as revealed by the people of the fishing industry. It was the oil spill that had had a direct affect on the fishing of the area. There are a number of assumptions being made about the possible causes for the disaster.
There was a huge amount of oil that had spilled inside the water and this is the reason the aquatic life of the place is going to be affected adversely. Though there was a cleanup operation started almost immediately after the disaster occurred. The authorities are of the view that it is still going to be a while before things here can be restored to normal, and the fishing activities can restore.
The aquatic animals at stake here are whales, dolphins and white sharks. Isn’t sure yet, whether these fish will visit the reef again in time to come or not. It was revealed by Roly Bagshaw from the Bait and Tackle in Tauranga that they are not yet sure what is going to happen in the time to come. He added that there are many questions still awaiting answers and this is a reason for continuous worry of the fishing industry.
They are o the view that the oil clears totally so that the future harm to the shipping industry is prevented.
“The commercial fishing industry will be affected. Trawling with oil on the surface and containers on the bottom will be unsafe and impossible”, said Bruce Weston, a retailer. It’s a matter of time to see what is the next turn of events before there can be a verdict given on how much loss has been incurred to the fishing industry.
