Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy to Treat Impotency

sexual-lifeImpotence is a single word which shakes up the confidence level of a man. However, men now don’t have to be afraid of impotency which is often described as erectile dysfunction in medical terms. It has been reported that the scientists have found a new technique of treating impotency of a man.

Previous study had revealed that men with mild erectile dysfunction can be treated by using extracorporeal shock wave therapy. For the recent study, the researchers recruited patients with erectile dysfunction, upon whom the drugs failed to show effects.

As part of the study, the researchers asked participants to fill some questionnaires which carried questions related to their sexual life. Later, the questionnaires were rated. Participants receiving less than 10 points were identified as serious case of erectile dysfunction.

The participants with less than 10 rating were provided with extracorporeal shock wave therapy for a period of two months. During the study, it was found that the therapy improved the erectile dysfunction of men.

It has been informed that some men reported the benefit of the treatment within three weeks of the commencement of treatment. The findings of the study have paved the way for an effective treatment of impotency.

The study was conducted by a team of researchers from Rambam Healthcare Campus. About 29 men took part in the study. Although researchers have found a way of treating impotency, further study is required to be conducted.

The researchers have informed that during the extracorporeal shock wave therapy no men reported of pain. Still, before prescribing the treatment to patients, researchers would be required to go through its benefits and side effects thoroughly.

It is hoped that the findings of the research would help in curing men from sexual disorder so that they could enjoy sexual life.
