Rise in Egg Donation Remuneration Sparks Different Reactions

Rise in Egg Donation Remuneration Sparks Different ReactionsAfter all the speculation being made on the matter of whether or not there should be a rise in the compensation given to egg donors, the HEFA has finally granted an increase in the matter. The Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority is of the view that this would be a great step in marking a rise in the number of donations. They were of the view that this step shall surely motivate people to come forward and help others bear a family.

It was revealed that the compensation shall be placed at £750 in the year 2012. There shall be a rise for the sperm donors as well and it shall be placed at £35 for every visit to the clinic.

This decision has come after there was a detailed public consultation on the issue. It was of the revelation that the main purpose of this step was to be able to compensate well for the stakes undertaken by the donors. It was further added that this shall also provide a boost to the number of people coming for the donation.

It was revealed by Lisa Jardine, the chairperson of HEFA that this was done to "set a level of compensation which will not deter those interested in donation but will retain donors already in the system, without attracting those who are merely financially motivated".

This development has brought mixed reactions from people. Some are of the view that this is a good step, considering the risks involved in egg donation. Others however are of the view that this is unethical and seems to be like a way t pay people for children. They believe that this is something which should be voluntary and selfless, rather than being a support system, done in turn for money.
