This research does not try to bring any difference between England and other parts of the UK but with its strong findings, it do tries to ask the concerned authorities concerned to take action for those living Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The British Medical Journal published a research which revealed that if people living in above regions start following English diet, then there would be 3,700 less deaths in these regions due to cancer, heart attack and stroke.
Peter Scarborough and team from the university's department of public health were of the view that English diet is rich in vitamins and minerals and has less of oil, sugar and salt. Though there are many reasons for the increased number of deaths in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the main reason is inappropriate diet.
If comparison is to be done in terms of worst diet then Scotland is at the top, followed by Northern Ireland, Wales and then England. So, difference is not about the culture but the entire difference lies in the diet.
The British Heart Foundation Health Promotion Research Group funded research followed the diet given in Family Food Survey for four years. It was found that English people does not consume more than 2,300 calories a day while in other parts of the UK people take liberty to have an additional 100 calories.
You might be thinking that 100 calories are not much, but it look it in per day way. These little liberties would later become a store of obesity.
Scarborough said that by giving preference to English diet, they do not mean to call it best like the Mediterranean diet, but without a doubt it is good diet to maintain health. He further affirmed that they are not having any problem with the food, being taken by Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland people, but it is the way that matters.
