Making an immensely imperative and effective disclosure, recent reports have alleged that targeting more and more elective surgeries can in fact result in enhanced access to elective operations.
As per reports, it has been claimed that thousands of individuals go through these critical surgeries every year in surgical theatres all over the nation. Some of these surgeries are unexpected which may be forced by a mishap, while others have been planned as part of an ongoing medical treatment for the patient. These sort of scheduled operations are known as elective surgeries.
Elective surgery is basically meant for patients who don’t require a surgery immediately, and the Government is highly focused on achieving a status where people have more and more access to this type of operation with the public health system providing sooner, better and more practical healthcare for the people in New Zealand.
In this format, the District Health Board has performed reasonably well at the Bay of Plenty, where in 2010/11, the overall performance was lifted to almost 104% of objective realizing 357 more operations than planned, masking a grand total of 8714 individuals provided with different types of elective surgeries. During last fourth quarter, the board did well in order to lift its ranking Health Target to 9th from the earlier 14th.
In addition, the board has continuously achieved the requisites for the objectives of elective waiting times and has thereby realized a considerable reduction in the waiting times for patients across a number of regions.
Part of this escalation is directly related to enhanced access to elective surgery offered as more and more patients are going to Whakatane for availing their surgeries. Using the capacity effectively at Whakatane is one of those essential ways by which the access to surgery can be improved for the Bay of Plenty.
