The NSW Government revealed in its report that their pilot project involving 47 schools has emerged to be a victorious one.
As per this project, more decision making power was being given to principals and the government was of the view that they have witnessed positive results of it. There is improvement in the students’ performance and staff morale has also increased.
But, there is somebody not liking the idea of power shift. The NSW Teachers Federation was of the view that if more power would be given to principals then it is quite possible that there would be an increase in the job cuts.
Teachers do not see it as an initiative taken for the betterment of the education system rather they find it as a chopper in the hands of the government to make job cuts in order to have cost cutting.
Federation president Bob Lipscombe affirmed, “The federation is not opposed to improvements in school-based decision-making, but we have grave concerns about basing any changes on a 47-school trial”.
Bob was of the view that the government has increased the salary on an annual basis by an additional 1%, which seems to be a fishy matter. He further affirmed that there could be no expenditures without saving and if they are not wrong then this saving would be derived by making job cuts.
Proof is being demanded by the Federation said Bob, who further affirmed that they would let the students to be part of such experiments.
State government does not seem to be affected and there is great possibility that the pilot project could be introduced in other schools as well.
NSW Education Minister Adrian Piccoli is disappointed by the views of Teachers Federation and did not expect such negative behavior from them.
