Rabbit Fever Feared

Rabbit Fever FearedIt has been revealed in a recent report that there might be a possible spread of a wildlife disease in the vicinity. The first ever victims of the same were two women who contracted the disease. They are reported to be the first people to contract the disease in the southern hemisphere.

It is actually a bacterial infection that these women contracted from possum bites, from the West Coast. The name of the disease is Tularaemia. Though there have been no other cases of the disease reported so far, the authorities are of the view that the reason for the spread of the same might be Possums and that there is need for people to be careful in the vicinity.

The disease does not spread from one person to another, it is not infectious, so for now, people need to steer clear from wild animals, as they might be a reason for the spread of the disease.

It's also known as rabbit fever, which is a common disease from the northern hemisphere. This disease is dangerous and might even be fatal, if help is not available on time.

The disease has varying incubation periods and no sort of animal bites should be left unattended in the current scenario. It is essential that one takes efficient care of the fact that they get anti-rabies injection as well as other vaccinations, if they happen to get bit by any wild animal.

The skin infection develops in the lymph glands of the person and it is extremely important to get proper medical attention on time. Once the disease sets on, it is difficult to help the patient.

"This infection does not pass from person to person and we would advise anyone who has been bitten or scratched by a wild animal to see their doctor", said Dr. Chrissie Pickin.
