Commercial Weight Loss Programmes the Key to Lose Weight

Commercial Weight Loss Programmes the Key to Lose WeightIn England, one in a group of four is an obese and seeing the eating habits and lethargic behavior of people, it is expected the obesity rates would rise.

Guidelines made in this regard are also not deriving fruitful benefits as it was advised that overweight people should be asked to have one-to-one conversation with doctors, nurses or counselor in order to reduce weight.

But then, one of the NHS methods was found to be quite beneficial in reducing weight. In this programme, the NHS doctors used to refer obese people to commercial weight loss programmes, being funded by the NHS. The scheme needed to be closed as they were scarcity of funds in the NHS.

To know the efficacy of commercial weight loss programme and to know the difference between the methods, commercial weight loss programmes and counseling sessions with doctor, an experiment was being conducted.

In total, 740 people were enrolled, and using the random sampling method, they were divided into groups. Three methods each were chosen from both the methods. In commercial weight loss programme, Weight Watchers, Slimming World, and Rosemary Conley were taken and in doctors advised programme, counseling run by a dietitian, one-on-one counseling with a nurse, and one-to-one counseling with a pharmacist, were chosen.

Total 12 weeks time was given to all the participants and after the given period, assessment was being done. It was found that commercial weight loss programme group had lost more weight than the other group. They lost 4.4kg in comparison to doctors advised group, who lost mere 1.4kg.

Commercial weight loss programme participants lost 5% of their body weight in three months. It is also the percentage, which doctors ask obese people in order to see health benefits. Not only this, these programmes are also economic than the doctors consultation fee.
