Double-Decker Pizza Boasting 1,800 Calories Equal to a Woman's Daily Allowance

Double-Decker Pizza Boasting 1,800 Calories Equal to a Woman's Daily AllowanceAccording to recent reports, it has been claimed that health experts are repeatedly warning that the country is going through a serious obesity time bomb.

But somehow, their concerns were not good enough in stopping Iceland from launching a 9in double decker pizza. As per health experts, the dish embraces loads of calories, 1,780 to be precise. The amount of calorie contained in a double decker pizza is nearly the same as the recommended daily allowance for a woman.

The Double Decker Double Pepperoni Pizza weighs 699g (24.5oz) and costs around £3. In addition, the product also includes 9.6g of salt, which one-and-a-half times more than the quantity of salt recommended for both the sexes.

It also carries 54.4g of fat, out of which 20.8g is allegedly saturated, the quantity being close to 80% of the recommended 25g daily consumption for women.

On the other hand, critics are even claiming that due to its small size, the majority of people will believe that the pizza is ideally intended for one person. However, it is mainly composed of two stone-baked dough bases crammed with sweet chilli sauce along with toppings tomato sauce, mozzarella and pepperoni.

At around 1,780 calories, it complies 90% of a woman's daily recommended allowance of 2,079, and in excess of 70% of the 2,605 as suggested for men.

That's equal to an entire day's meals, counting toast for breakfast, boiled eggs, a tuna sandwich for lunch and vegetables, potatoes and chicken for dinner. On top of that, it adds into it dessert and a snack as well.

In this regard, while expressing his concerns over the health issue on offer due to the introduction of the latest double decker pizza, Tam Fry, of the National Obesity Forum and Child Growth Foundation, claimed: "The problem is as a 9in pizza it will look to many like a single serving and it will be eaten by many as a single serving".
