The surging demand of the nurses has forced the hospital managers to take the stern step of locking out the nurses. The Australian Nurses Federation has expressed its anger over the plans of the medical authorities.
It has been reported that the nurses are seeking a hike of 18.5% for a period of four years. However, the government is promising to increase their wages only by 14%. While criticizing the plans of the medical authorities, the Australian Nurses Federation said that it will be taking an action against them.
However, the health managers said that this is the only option they have to prevent damages. Empathizing with the nurses, the Health Minister, David Davis, assured that the nurses will not be locked out.
Although Mr. Davis has answered the woes of the nurses, the patients’ health care still remains a question. There is no doubt that the work ban by the nurses would have a direct effect over the care of nurses.
It has been reported that from Thursday onwards, the nurses of psychiatric wards of Victoria would be going on strike. The demands of the psychiatric nurses are to bring changes in the working environment and to increase the wages of medical staff.
The Sate Secretary of Health and Community Services Union (HCSU), Lloyd Williams, informed that the nurses are disappointed with the efforts of government to strike a negotiation with the demand of them. Mr. Williams said, “The Baillieu government promised to fix the problems in mental health, yet since being elected they have failed to address the chronic staff shortages in psychiatric in-patient units and community treatment teams”.
Looking at the determination of nurses of holding strike, it has been decided to shift two beds of every public hospital to emergency ward so that the patients could be provided with proper care.
