Amid conflicting news that the National Basketball Assn. lockout would significantly affect ESPN cable sports network, Walt Disney’s Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo has come out to dilute all the fears, thereby ensuring that the crisis would soon be resolved.
"Since many NBA advertisers want to reach male demos, we’ll expect a good portion of NBA ad dollars will [flow] to other ESPN properties, including college basketball”, said Rasulo, who is confident that they have other programs to deliver their continued services.
Even Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger seems largely unaffected by the news that it would make any major impact, though he’s in favor of NBA season. However, there are confirmed reports that profit of Walt Disney Co escalated by 30% in its fourth quarter backed by excellent figures in its theme-parks and television divisions.
Moreover, the company is eyeing to explore the best possible opportunities available on developing markets like Russia, China and India so that sustained growth could be achieved in the time to come. It is being believed that the company is quiet serious about its future ventures in, emerging economies where market has huge potential. It has been known that under Chief Executive Bob Iger, the company has achieved excellent results.
The results have zipped the lips of those who long have been nervous about the future potential of the company as global uncertainty has affected them in some or the other way. However in May, the results certainly forced the investors to take rational approach to make investment in the company.
As of now, the company is mulling the option to replace NBA games with college basketball and other live sports programming so that the controversy shrouding labor drags issue could be addressed. Though the company is sure that they would seem through this tough time, it would be interesting to see how things would evolve in the time to come.
