Man Attacked in Rare Wasp Swarm

Man Attacked in Rare Wasp SwarmAll the creatures of nature have been gifted with the natural power of defending themselves.

But, what happens when defense turns into offense? Recently, it was reported that an elderly man was stung several times in a swarm attack on Sunday morning when he was cleaning his backyard. It has been reported that the man was cleaning his backyard when he accidently touched the wasp nest.

Within few seconds, the wasps collectively stung him more than 30 times on face and arms. The man was rescued by a rescue team. He was rushed to Auckland City Hospital in frail condition. However, when the rescue team reached to rescue him, he was in stable condition and was able to describe the horrifying experience to the officers.

In the hospital, he was provided with medication which helped in easing out the swelling of his face but, the sting marks are still visible. For several hours, the medical staff kept him under observation as he was given with strong dosage of drugs.

Previously as well, there have been many such other incidents. In 2007, a woman was brought to the hospital after being attacked by wasps. In this particular case, the victim Mary Everitt succumbed stroke and unfortunately, she fell over wasps' nest. For almost half an hour, the wasps kept attacking the 85-years-old women.

Neighbors and ambulance did try to reach to her to help her. But due to large number of wasps, they could not reach to her. Finally, firefighters were able to help her by rescuing her and taking to hospital.

In yet another case, Rob Wallace, a resident of Waimauku, suffered several stings which putted his life under threat. But luckily, he was cured. These incidents are horrifying but hold a deep meaning: no one should temper with natural creatures, knowingly or unknowingly.
