There is no denial that doctors have a strong role to play in medical health care, that's what has caught the attention of one and all when a report was seen in the New Zealand Medical Journal. The report underlined the changes the medical health care system has gone so far in the last 20 years, and the way doctors have to change their role from mere a doctor to a more responsibility orientated leader.
The report mainly revolved around issues like responsibility for medical decisions, ethical responsibility, partnership with patients, leadership, and advocacy for improved health care.
There is no second thought that doctors have the prime responsibility of taking care of patients, but over a period of time, it has been seen that there have come crucial points in profession where one has to take a leadership role.
There have been times when doctors are aware about limited resources in their hands to save life and then they have to strike a balance between what they can do the best for saving one's life with the available help.
"As significant resources themselves, they are committed to ensuring their own and others' skills and knowledge are deployed to best effect", said the report.
Supporting the report, New Zealand Medical Association Chairman Dr .Paul Ockelford claimed that there are many tough challenges in front of the medical health care with ageing population and serious diseases plaguing countries across the world. Instead of following the conventional methods to treat patients, at times it becomes highly imperative that some duties are being assigned to others.
Medical health care system is run on the shoulders of a perfect team work, including doctors, nurses and other medical support, and thus it has become important that all play their role in making the best possible for patients.
