New Lease of Life for Donations of Organs

Donations-OrgansFor the majority of boys, there's nothing special or extraordinary about going for swimming lessons or playing soccer, but it’s a windfall and a dream come true for Anthony "AJ" Myers, as now he can do all these things easily.

The 10-year-old Nollamara-based boy, who recently went through a life-saving liver transplant, can now successfully and blissfully enjoy his childhood and even the rest of his life. Earlier during 2010, the boy received a liver which started deteriorating and therefore, he was in deep need for another liver transplant in order to survive.

He went through a critical liver transplant when his organ failed at the time when he was just three years old. Due to organ failure, his skin and eyes turned yellow as his liver was not able to break down wastes and toxins in his bloodstream.

Until few years ago, AJ was surviving on an unnerving cocktail of 22 tablets and liquid medicines and then, his doctors informed that his donor liver was rapidly deteriorating and therefore, he required a new transplant. AJ and his family were out of resources (for organ donator) and they had to go through a traumatizing period of 21-month before he finally got a new liver.

Jane Myers, AJ’s mother is extremely happy that his child has got a second chance to live life like any other normal little boy does, and she thoroughly understands the importance of organ donation for saving someone’s life.

While expressing her opinion and joy, Jane Myers said: "He can do things that all his school mates can do instead of always (being told) he's different and he can't do this because of his limitations. Just being normal - that's all he's ever wanted so it's given him quality of life”.
