Early Morning Heart Attack Can Seriously Damage Heart

Early Morning Heart Attack Can Seriously Damage HeartHeart attacks are often considered as life threatening, but did you know that time of receiving heart attack can have serious health implications over one's life. A recent study has found that heart attack can be severe if received in the morning between 1:00 a. m. to 5:00 a. m.

According to researchers, time plays a vital role in the severity of the heart attack. The heart attack and the subsequent left-ventricular function is different when heart attack is received in the morning as compared to attack in afternoon or night.

Indian surgeons have affirmed the findings of the study. Dr. Ramakant Panda, cardiac surgeon at Asian Heart Institute noted that at night, "body is asleep but the mind is awake. The autonomous nervous system is stimulated which releases hormones such as adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol. These hormones increase the activity if the heart which beats and works harder. But the hormones constrict the blood supply to the heart".

The Chairman of Escorts Heart Institute, Dr. Ashok Seth said that patients wait whole night to get ECG done in the morning. The prolonged wait damages the heart and because of it, chances of survival reduce.

According to the researchers, the ability of heart from protecting itself of damage from attack varies over a 24-hour cycle. However, it is hoped that the drug Traverse would prove helpful in saving lives from heart attack. The drug is yet to be launched as it is going through trial.

For the study, the researchers analyzed the health records of 1,031 heart patients. During the study, the researchers found that the time of heart attack had link with the damage incurred by the heart. It is for the very first time when it has been highlighted that the time of heart attack can have link with heart damage.
