TGA Delists SensaSlim From ARTG

TGA Delists SensaSlim From ARTGThe Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has cancelled the registration of weight loss product SensaSlim from the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).

Safety concern is not the issue for delisting. In fact it has been found to be breaking important ACT advertising rules and for that reason TGA has taken this step. TGA said the company has broken the law, which has given birth to civil penalty under the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989.

The TGA said in its statement from December 1, weight loss product SensaSlim oral spray would not be found in the market and affirmed that they had also prohibited "the importing into, exporting from, Australia and the manufacturing or supply of the product in Australia, or the advertising of the product".

It was in March when the TGA received a complaint from Dr. Ken Harvey, who is an assistant lecturer in public health at La Trobe University. He affirmed that the oral spray is not falling under the mentioned guidelines of the TGA in regard to advertisement of products.

After coming across to written complaint, they initiated their own investigation committee and found that SensaSlim was not following the ethics of advertisement that has been made by the TGA.

Dr. Harvey was of the view that not for once but they have lied in every `tick box'. Some four to five statements are given in the back of product which has `tick boxes' with it. These boxes are to be ticked by the company if they fulfill one or all the conditions of TGA.

This was the bone of contention, and they had made false claims that their products have been managed as per the TGA guidebook.

TGA spokesperson affirmed they have never tested such kind of product of which SensaSlim boasts of and it would be good if people would get to know that their agency does not do pre-testing.
