Warning bells for a Calgary-based company, as there are reports of suspected contamination of Listeria in its pre-cooked Asian foods. In consequent to the report, Ginger Beef Corp came into swift action and closed its plants while all products spread in five provinces were called back.
As of now, the company in collaboration with retailers from British Columbia to Ontario is trying best to ensure that every possible measure is being taken to identify the root cause of the infection. Even consumers are being told about the same so that human discomfort can be averted to the best possible level.
Even the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has been approached to get into the root cause of the matter. There are steps being taken regarding the operations of the food so that there is no loophole on their part as far as safety of the food is concerned.
"We follow all government requirements for food handling and have a comprehensive food safety program in place across our operations", said James Leung, vice-president of operations for Ginger Beef Choice Ltd., as pressure is mounting on the company about the safety standards.
It has been known that Listeria can cause serious health consequences to humans and that's why so much is being talked about it as the report hit the market.
Moreover, the impact was quite visible on the financial market as shares of the company were seen stable at one point of time on the TSX Venture Exchange. There has been another such case where Canada's largest food processor Maple Leaf Foods was forced to pull out all of its meat products across the country as an outbreak of Listeria occurred at a Toronto plant.
So far, no case of human illness has been reported, but the company has assured complete cooperation for any such case.
