A study published by the journal Fertility and Sterility has revealed that if men use personal computers enabled with Wi-Fi, placing them near their reproductive organs, their sperm quality reduces.
As per the American and Argentine team, this happens due to electromagnetic radiation emitted by wireless communication. These radiations tend to slow down the speed of sperm and damage its quality so badly that it gets difficult to change their genetic code.
There is a possibility that men who are used to working like this could face problems while trying for children. Meanwhile, this condition was not found in men who use computer enabled with Wi-Fi but from a distance.
The research was taken out in artificial setting by two institutions, the Nascentis Centre for Reproductive Medicine from Argentina and the Eastern Virginia Medical School from America. Researchers said that during their research they found that when men placed laptop over their reproductive organs then after few hours, the sperm near that area was completely damaged.
Not only this, they also found that even DNA gets damaged in the process. In order to check that does same thing happens if laptop is not placed at the same position, they created an artificial setting where they kept every factor same except for the placement of laptop.
They found lesser problems in mobility with fewer sperms damaged, and a significant reduction in DNA damage was noted. Lead author Dr. Conrado Avendano informed that the damage only happens if Wi-Fi is attached to laptops as they have placed semen under the laptop which was not connected with Wi-Fi.
They did not find significant level of sperm destruction which was being witnessed when personal computers were attached with Wi-Fi. Further study would be needed to assess that whether all laptops show this effect when connected to Wi-Fi or not.
