Obese Mothers Undergoing IVF Needs To Maintain Particular BMI

Obese Mothers Undergoing IVF Needs To Maintain Particular BMIThe American Society for Reproductive Medicine presented research has revealed that obese mothers who conceive through in vitro fertilization could suffer from numerous health problems.

Main problem is their increased body mass index (BMI) which should not be more than 30 kg/m2 as otherwise they could face problems like increased miscarriage risk, lower live birth rates, still births. Therefore, it is very important that obese expecting mothers should not have more BMI than normal weight mothers.

One of the authors, Dr. Hassan Sallam was of the view that it is a new concept, but till they are not able to get a firm response on it as some previous researches have affirmed that in vitro fertilization and obesity are negatively linked while some say it is inter-linked.

Researchers who have concluded in their research that the BMI and IVF pregnancy is negatively linked have discarded the view of this research and affirmed that there are links but they are not sufficient to prove their association with obesity.

Dr. Sallam and his team said they thought to find out concrete answer on this topic. They studied all the previous studies and compared every case with obesity and its link with the outcomes of pregnancy and further complications.

In total they took 15 studies and from them they compared obese women cases with that of normal women who have their BMI with 20 to 25. After assessing all the cases, it was found that live birth rate among normal weight women was 25% and that with obese women was 23%.

Dr. Sallam who is Professor at the University of Alexandria affirmed, "Obese women undergoing IVF and ICSI have significant lower live birth rates and clinical pregnancy rates".

There is possibility that if obese women would not be able to control their BMI within given range then they would be denied of IVF.
