A survey carried out by the Office for National Statistics has highlighted that Britain is least affected with the global crisis. The Office for National Statistics is a part of David Cameron’s ‘happiness index’.
In survey, it was found that 76% of the employed generation of Britain was happier in their life as they regarded their day to day activities as worthwhile. However, the unemployed generation and singles classified themselves as unhappy.
Commenting upon the findings of the survey, Mark Williamson, founder of the Action For Happiness campaign, noted, “The overall figures do show that, despite the economic doom and gloom, we’re actually pretty resilient here in the UK – and not all happiness comes down to bank balance”.
Mark Williamson further noted that if the survey had been conducted at Canada, Norway and Denmark then, the figures would also had been same as they all are quite happier in their life. Relate counselor Christine Northam noted that the media is going all gaga about the global crunch because they want people to be strong.
For the survey, 4,200 people were asked to rank their satisfaction and anxiety out of 10. About 76% of the participants gave seven out of ten to express their satisfaction. However, none reported of zero level of satisfaction.
“Happiness Index” was launched last year by David Cameron with the pursuit of gauging the satisfaction levels of the residents of the UK. For the same, the government invested a huge amount of £2m. It is for the very first time when happiness of the people has been measured by using the tool of “happiness index”.
Measuring happiness is not an easy task. Therefore, in the beginning of this year, the Office for National Statistics listed 10 factors like health, education, income, work and trust in politicians to measure the well-being or happiness of the people.
