Violent Video Games Can Affect Normal Brain Functions, Says Study

Violent Video Games Can Affect Normal Brain Functions, Says StudyFrom decades, video games are maintaining their popularity not only among kids but on people of all ages. The majority of kids prefer to play video games for many hours, instead of other games or outdoor activities. As an attempt to explore the pros and cons of using video games for a long time, especially violent ones, a team of the US researchers carried out a research and identified that playing video games, even for a week, has enough potential of introducing some alterations in brain areas related to cognitive function.

While explain the findings, an expert from the Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Yang Wang, in collaboration with colleagues, claimed to identify a direct relationship between playing violent video games over an extended period of time and a succeeding alteration in brain regions connected with cognitive function as well as emotional control.

"For the first time, we have found that a sample of randomly assigned young adults showed less activation in certain frontal brain regions following a week of playing violent video games at home", said Dr. Yang Wang, while briefing the negative impacts of violent video games on young minds.

During the study, the researchers studied 28 healthy males, aged between 18 and 29, and divided them in two groups where members of first group were directed to play a violent video game for 10 hours, whereas the second group was not insisted on playing video games.

The research findings can be observed as a clear evidence to depict the critical situation where a number of children are suffering from several behavioral complications such as aggression due to excessive use of such games rather than other outdoor games and sports.
