Acupuncture Benefits Cancer Patients

AcupunctureAcupuncture is a very common term that we hear when we talk about some of the most important techniques to relax our body from pain and difficulties.

The newest addition into the same list is the findings of a research done by the researchers from Hamburg, Germany. Following their latest research, the team of researchers has recently claimed that acupuncture is an advantageous technique that has shown good improvements in the pain of cancer patients and also, it has shown improvements in the nerve signals of their bodies.

The findings have been published in the journal Acupuncture in Medicine. The research was done over patients who were already being medicated with a wide range of chemotherapy drugs (easily causes conditions like peripheral neuropathy that damage the nerves in the calves and feet thereby making it difficult to walk for the patient).

The research ran for three months. During the period, the researchers introduced six cancer patients to ten sessions of acupuncture. They then measured the changes in the body of the participants against the other five subjects, who did not undergo any acupuncture session for their illness.

The researchers noticed that the former group showed a good improvement as the therapy boosted the blood flow to lower legs. Following the results, the researchers have suggested that more and larger trials should be conducted to conclude some more advantages of the exercising technique.

A similar study was performed to notice if acupuncture can also help lessen nerve pain of cancer patients. It was noticed after performing the treatment that cancer patients with severe nerve pain also benefitted from acupuncture.

The researchers, writing in the journal Acupuncture in Medicine, said: “The data suggest that acupuncture has a positive effect on CIPN”. They added that larger trials are needed in this regard.
