It has been recently revealed that there is soon going to be a hike witnessed in the costs of health care in the private sector. This is because James Relly, the Health Minister announced to do away with the subsidy that was so far reserved for the purpose of private medical treatment at public hospitals. This might result in increased cost of healthcare for general people. They might have to face a sum of about €1,250 rise in the health insurance plans of people.
In the current scenario, the public hospitals cannot charge those private patients who are at public beds. This is a loss scenario for the hospitals as well as gives subsidy for the private insurance firms. It was warned by VHI Healthcare that this sort of change would mean doubling the costs of healthcare for patients at public hospitals. There is an expected €1,250 rise in the plan which currently stands for a family of four at a price of €2,500.
It might cause a lot of incontinence for the people as they might have to spend more for the same care.
“The new system is fairer and entirely in keeping with the charges required along the road to universal health insurance. Removing this subsidy to private patients will help to protect services for public patients”, said Dr. Relly. The authorities have devised this plan for incurring benefits at the cost of trouble for the people.
It’s a matter of time to see how much exactly the people are affected with this increase and how much resistance the authorities have to face for the incorporation of these plans in the time to come.
