Four months after the death of a student, the authorities have revealed that the death of the student occurred due to faulty cooker which blasted and led to the student's death. It has come to light that faulty cookers have taken two more lives in 2009.
In a 2009 death case, two friends and neighbors Annie Gallagher and Sarah McDyer were found dead at Annie Gallagher's home. Photographs taken at the scene shows McDyer lying on the floor, while Annie Gallagher was slumped in an armchair holding a cup of tea.
An inquest over the case has revealed that carbon monoxide, which was produced by one of the cooking appliance, was responsible for their death. The two ladies were in their 80s. Following findings of the inquest, it has been proposed by the Court Jury that a special legislation over LPG appliance should be made so that their production and usage could be checked.
Besides, it also noted that the National Consumer Agency should maintain a tab over the complicated appliances. The Agency has been given the authority of recalling the products which may put the lives of people in danger. While proposing a greater responsibly to the National Consumer Agency, the Jury said that the National Consumer Agency should be given "a greater role in suggesting product recalls and they should be able to audit product recalls and issue penalties to businesses which fail to meet audits".
French student Alexis Landry is also said to have died by utmost exposure to carbon monoxide. All of the deaths were apparently linked to faulty cooking appliance. An investigation held over the death of Landry revealed that a cooker produced carbon monoxide in the flat where he was staying.
