It seems like the measles outbreak has not yet ended in Auckland as the health authorities have urged people to get themselves vaccinated before going on holidays. In the month of May, about 372 cases of measles were reported by the health authorities of the Auckland. Moreover, 42 patients were required to be hospitalized.
A person affected with measles may show up symptoms of fever, cough, sour throat, runny nose and red eyes. In serious cases, white spots inside the mouth and red rashes all over the body may also appear. Dr. Stuart Jenkins from Auckland and Waitemata District Health Boards has informed that in the holiday season, the chances of measles to be transmitted are quite high as people travels from places to places.
Dr. Stuart Jenkins said, “We have seen some encouraging results in the increased uptake of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine to curb the spread of measles. But there is still an outbreak in the Auckland region, and people need to continue to be vigilant”.
People are being urged to get themselves vaccinated so that the spread of measles could be prevented. The most popular vaccine MMR is the best way of preventing measles. The vaccine is available for free of cost.
Those who are not immunized against measles are urged to visit their GPs before going on Christmas holiday. There is no fun in celebrating Christmas while being sick. Therefore, at the time of festive season, it is best to get vaccinated against transmittable diseases. Parents getting their kids vaccinated against measles need to understand that the vaccination might cause some side effects, which are quite common. In Europe, the cases of measles have begun to pop up. This year, nine people succumbed to death because of measles, in Europe.
