As per reported information, it has been revealed that a Ski centre, which was on the verge of shutting down earlier in 2010, will soon be undergoing a £500,000 renovation for the sake of enhancing its services, infrastructure and functioning.
The makeover is apparently a major aspect of the recently unveiled plan for boosting user numbers.
Hillend’s Midlothian Snow Sports Centre on the peripheral zone of Edinburgh is already deemed as one of Europe’s most challenging and largest dry slopes. And now, it will be kitted out by the means of an extra 230-yard slope, along with a novel nursery slope of around 90 yards.
The renovation will also take into account the novel snowtubing runs, and it will also replace the matting used on nursery slopes. A fresh misting arrangement will be making it certain that the slopes stay lubricated so as to enhance the speed and for creating a additionally realistic surface.
In addition, the renovation will make it possible or the Skiers to use two new fresh “magic carpet” uphill escalators.
It is reportedly the only facility in Scotland that is fit for hosting official seeded giant slalom of Olympian-standard. Along with that, it is Europe’s second-longest facility, just a ladder down the German centre.
In this regard, the owner and regulator of the centre, Midlothian Council recently claimed that the progressions were fabricated for the sake of improving the skiing experience.
Earlier in 2010, fears and uncertainty was looming over the future of the centre as it was being expected that the centre will be closed soon. The main reason behind such speculations was the statement released by the council, claiming that it is no longer in a position to afford funds for carrying out events and other functions, but it was fortunately saved by donations from the Scottish Government.
