It has been recently revealed that there has been a recent decline in the rate of infections caused by superbugs but on the other hand, there has been a rise witnessed in the cases of measles. According to a recent statistic, there have recently been as many as 305 cases of the disease reported.
It was revealed that the MRSA infection has decreased tremendously, being the lowest since last 10 years. There has also been a drop in the rates of C. Difficile disease in the recent past. The figures have been given out by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre from Ireland.
The reason for the decline of this number of diseases might be the infection control polices registered in hospitals these days. These include keeping the surroundings clean as well as incorporating better measures for hand washing for the staff, so that there is no spread of the infection.
The cases are predominantly found among Traveller and Roma communities, and also among those who choose not to have their children vaccinated against vaccine-preventable diseases. Other European countries also witnessed measles outbreaks during 2010, revealed Dr. Darina O’ Flanagan, of the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.
However, measles hasn’t decreased as of now, despite many awareness camps and vaccination programs issued against it. There is need for stronger efforts to be made by health authorities for proper execution of plans so that a change can be brought about in this regard. With the decline in a number of other diseases, there is a boost in health industry. The good work needs to be kept on and the industry needs to generate further ideas for helping people steer clear of diseases with proper precautions and vaccinations
