Researchers Claim Long-term Recall Ability since Early Childhood

ChildhoodSome children have very long term recall ability when they are as young as two years old, say researchers at Otago University.

Yes, in their recent statement, a team of researchers has discovered that few children are gifted with very long term recall ability as they are able to remember even many years after about the events that they experienced when they were young like two years old or so.

Researchers have concluded the above findings when they noticed in their six year long run research that the pre-schoolers, whom they gave a unique game to play, even after six years remembered about the game and the puzzles they solved.

Dr. Fiona Jack, among the team of researchers that ran the study said that they provided every child with a unique and custom-made game ensuring that no kid experiences same game. After six years, upon quizzing all the children about the puzzles they were provided with, the researchers found that approx one-fifth of the 8-10 year-olds actually remembered the game they were given.

Dr. Jack said that the study will gain the legal fraternity, which often doubts the veracity of the memories of young witnesses, who sometimes are important witnesses in court cases.

The findings of Otago University study have been published in the American journal Child Development. The findings are the first ones to prove that humans can very well recall events that happen during their earliest years.

"While these very early memories are not uncommon, their veracity is often debated,” said Lead Author Dr. Fiona Jack. "It's the best evidence that we have so far that children as young as 2 ... can remember events over a long period of time”, Dr. Jack added
