Clinics and NHS Trusts Accused of Charging Higher For IVF Treatment

IVF-TreatmentIt has been informed that a large number of women seeking IVF treatment are being sacked with higher expenses. The NHS trusts and private clinics have been accused of maximizing their profits by taking the advantage of patients’ incapability of having children naturally.

The clinics of the UK have been severely criticized by a Britain's leading fertility doctor, Lord Winston. He said that the clinics have been exploiting unfortunate couples. It has been informed that many women are forced to pay large sum of money to get IVF treatment.

It has been informed by Lord Winston that the clinics have charged £350 for storing embryo in a flask of liquid nitrogen, which actually costs only 70p. The clinics have continued the practice for about one year.

It is believed that with higher portion of couples giving priority to career and delaying pregnancy will ultimately increase the demand of IVF treatment. It has been highlighted that a cycle of IVF can cost about £4,000 and £8,000, it includes consultation fee of £200 and £1,000 for storing and freezing embryo.

Last year, about 45,000 women went under the knife of IVF treatment. Out of them, about 60% of the women had to pay privately for the treatment. It is pitiable to know that the clinics are charging higher for those treatments of which the success rates are quite low.

A separate survey has informed that about 2,500 women in Britain paid for IVF treatment through their savings but all the efforts were in vein as the treatment failed to provide them an opportunity to enjoy motherhood.

It has been recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence that women between the age groups of 23 to 39 should be provided with funding for IVF treatment, for a period of three years. But the recommendations are being widely ignored by many clinic and NHS trusts.
