NHS To Operate Private Patients to Earn More Profit

Andrew-LansleyIn order to raise more funds for NHS, the Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley, has allowed doctors to conduct operation on private patients. It shall however be noticed that doctor’s first responsibility is to treat Health Service Patient.

The Ministers said they have raised the bar so NHS is able to fill in the needed cash. On an annual basis, NHS would be able to its revenue from it by 49%. Lansley said they have made little changes but have made sure that GP’s first priority remains HSP.

This scheme is for those hospitals which come under NHS but are not foundation hospitals. These hospitals are the ones which are free to manage their tasks but are supervised by the NHS. Lansley said they want foundation hospitals should also follow this change. But Liberal of Democrats is not in the favor of this recommendation.

They were of the view that foundation hospitals were created so medical care could improve and also communities could run their own medical services. If this scheme is being followed by them then there is no possibility that community could focus on their medical needs.

This provision has put Lansley in controversy and especially with Liberal Democrat Minister John Pugh. He said the government is trying to create a two-tier healthcare system.

Pugh said, “Blurring the boundaries between public and private provision is part of a programme to curtail or end the state’s role in the provision of public services”.

The Health Spokesman, Andy Burnham, also blamed the government for making medical healthcare segment as profit making machine. He thinks if the government would continue with this move then NHS would also become a US style commercial system, where more stress is given to find out ways to generate money rather than providing quality medical care.
