Fatty Food Can Damage Brain, Say Researchers

Fatty-FoodA recent research has pointed out that consumption of fatty food can lead to brain damage. The research was carried out by the US scientists. The findings of the researchers have been published in the renowned pages of the journal Clinical Investigation.

For long, the experts have been issuing warning against obesity. Previously it has been informed that obesity can lead to life threatening disease. It is for the first time when researchers have pointed out that sudden high consumption of fatty food can lead to brain damage.

It is wide known that one can lose weight by following strict diet plan but as soon as the body adapts to the old diet plan or weight the chances of brain receiving damage increases. The US researchers have pointed out that obesity causes inflammation which can be a sign of brain damage.

The researchers conducted a test over animal model. For the test, the researchers gave high fat food to mice to make them obese. It was found that after consuming fatty diet, the rodents showed signs of inflammation at hypothalamus.

The inflammation among the rodent was observed soon after 24 hours of providing them fatty meals. Hypothalamus is an area in the brain which informs the body about hunger. This particular are of the brain also regulates as to how much energy or fat is to be burned from the body.

While commenting upon the findings of the research, the lead researcher Dr. Michael Schwartz said, “We saw direct evidence of neuron injury and, ultimately, after months on the diet, a loss of neurons in this hypothalamic area that's vital for body weight control”. The researchers concluded the research by saying that switching diet plans could have adverse impact upon brain.
