It has been reported that a man who received the world's first dual leg transplant in his 20's is now capable of walking in the swimming pool. However, it will take him many months to walk again independently. The transplant of the patient was carried out in the month of July.
It has been informed that the operation was carried out at the La Fe Hospital, located in Valencia, by a team of 50 doctors. The operation was complex, but by God's grace the patient is doing well and is recovering significantly. Till now, no significant health complications have been complained by the patient.
Two weeks after the operation at the La Fe Hospital, the patient was transferred to the Cavadas Clinic. There he has spent time in recovering and exercising. Cavadas Clinic is quite famous for performing transplant surgeries.
It has been informed that two years back, the Clinic operated the world's first face transplant surgery. The surgery was carried out on 43-year-old man. The surgeons corrected the disfigured jaw and tongue of the man during the face transplant.
Spanish surgeon Pedro Cavadas, who performed the dual leg transplant of 20-year-old man, was the first one to perform a transplant of forearms and hands in 2006 and 2008, respectively.
It has been informed that the dual leg transplant was carried out over the man, as he got his leg damaged in an accident that took place while he was on work. The advancement in technology has made it possible for people to get their body parts transplanted.
Transplantation is bliss for those who've lost their body parts in accidents. Transplant prevents a person from living a handicapped life, and thus makes him/her independent.
