Excess of Coffee Reduces Endometrial Cancer Risk

Excess of Coffee Reduces Endometrial Cancer RiskCoffee lovers have found yet another reason to have more coffee. A new study has revealed that having more than four cups of coffee averts risk of endometrial cancer in women by 25%.

Study’s lead author Youjin Je from the Harvard School of Public Health informed that this cancer originates in the lining of uterus and increasingly it is becoming a deadly cancer. But, if one has more than four to five then she could be at safer side than those who are, do not consume coffee.

The researchers said that endometrial cancer gets diagnosed with increased secretion of oestrogen and insulin in the body and coffee is said to reduce the levels of these two hormones.

But, it shall be noted that risk gets averted only in those who are heavy consumers of coffee.

Je said, "This is an observational study - coffee intake is self-selected, not randomized - so our study cannot prove causal relationship between coffee and endometrial cancer risk, but we found an inverse association between coffee and endometrial cancer risk”.

In order to reach the conclusion, they enrolled 67,470 women who were aged between 34 and 59. Experiment was conducted from 1980 to 2006 and during this period they were asked to inform about their coffee consumption in gap of four years.

When calculation was done to know average coffee consumption and risk association. It was found that those women who consume more than four cups of coffee are the ones which have 25% less chances to develop the cancer.

It shall be noted that such high consumption could also lead to other problem such as sugar and high BP. For this, they would need to follow up study so coffee consumption should do only benefit and no loss.
