It has been reported that about 13,200 Colorful Hearts Teddy bears have been recalled from Canadian market because of safety issues. The recall of teddy bears was called for as it was found that the fabric of teddy bear can cause chocking among the kids.
Although there has not been any reported injury due to the teddy bears, parents have been advised to make sure that their kids are not surrounded with the teddy bears. It has been informed that the recalled teddy bears are the products of Build-A-Bear.
The teddy bears which have been recalled were sold from April to December, 2011. About 284,000 Colorful Hearts Teddy bears were sold in the US and 13,200 in Canada. The teddy bears have been recalled from the market of Canada only and not from the US.
It seems like 2011 has proved an unlucky year for the manufacturer as in the previous month, Build-A-Bear was slapped with a fine of $6,000 by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for not disclosing about the defects in the toy beach chairs.
While slapping a fine, the CPSC said, “The sharp edges of the chair's folding wooden frame can pinch, lacerate or amputate a child's fingertip …The company became aware of 10 reports of injury between July 2007 and January
2009, yet did not report to the Commission until March 2009”.
Ed Mierzwinski, a consumer advocate has suggested that the company should work over improving its management skills and risk analysis. It is in the benefit of the company to take necessary measures to make sure that kids’ safety is not hampered by their products.
It has not been informed as when the recalled teddy bears would again become available for sale. An investigation is expected to be held over the defected products.
