CPR more effective at saving lives than “kiss of life”: Vinnie Jones advertises

British action & comedy star Vinnie Jones is appearing in a new TV advert to publicize that hands-only CPR to the tune of the Bee Gees' 1970s hit Stayin Alive is more effective at saving lives than mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

In the advert, 46-year-old Vinnie can be seen reprising his Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels gangster persona, showing how he uses the technique on a collapsed `geezer,' while the Bee Gees' 1977 hit plays in the background.

CPR (Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) is given to a person when he/she suffers a cardiac arrest, when his/her heart stops pumping blood. The British Heart Foundation (BHF) believes that CPR is the best possible way to save a person's life as many people feel awkward about giving the "kiss of life".

The advert, developed by the BHF also suggests that giving a patient the kiss of life could waste the precious time. In a fresh poll of around 2,000 adults, the BHF found that around a fifth of people feel awkward about the idea of giving the kiss of life. Available figures show that survival rate for cardiac arrest is very low. As many as 30,000 people suffer from cardiac arrests per year and merely 10 per cent of them recover.
