The would-be-chairman of Tata Motors, Cyrus Mistry made his first appearance with Ratan Tata at Delhi Auto Expo on Thursday. His presence got the attention of press reporters present there. They tried to communicate with him by asking questions regarding Tata’s Jaguar Land Rover, but decided to politely decline the questioning round.
It has been informed that Cyrus Mistry, son of Pallonji Mistry, would be taking up the role of Tata’s Chairman in December 2012. Although it has been declared that Cyrus Mistry would be taking up the role of Tata’s next Chairman, it is yet to be decided whether or not he will also be made the CEO of Tata Steel.
During the question round, Ratan Tata said that they did a mistake with nano in positioning and marketing the product. Tata’s nano has failed to steal the hearts of the consumers but, Ratan Tata doesn’t regard it as a flop.
Ratan Tata was reported saying: “Many efforts were made to discredit the product. We never pushed it (Nano) as a poor man's car, but as an affordable all-weather family car. Whatever stigma is there in the market, we will undo it, going forward”.
He further said that the company was not ready with the advertisement strategies. The comments by Ratan Tata came when a number of complaints were pointed put about nano. Although the car has proved a flop for many, Ratan Tata is still having confidence over his impending car.
He is of the opinion that the car has the potential of bringing revolution in the Indian market.
At the Auto Expo, Tata Motors showcased four cars, namely Tata Nano CNG, Indigo Manza diesel-electric hybrid, Tata Starbus Fuel Cell and Tata Indica Magic Iris CNG. However, in the SUV segment, new Safari Strome model was displayed by the Tata Motors.
