On the New Year Eve, the Chief of Chinese restaurant in the Harmonie German Club, Liu Jun, cooked mushrooms for himself and for his friends, which turned out to be poisonous. His friends had pointed out that Liu Jun prefers to cook fresh food and this habit of his might have led to the mistake.
The chief has succumbed to death while waiting for liver transplant after consuming the deadly mushrooms. His kitchen hand Tsou Hsiang also failed to survive. The other two friends of him are being medically treated.
Following the incident, the club issued a condolence letter to the family of deceased. In the letter, the club wrote, “To the family and friends of our colleagues who died recently after an unfortunate event of eating death cap mushrooms at a private meal”.
It is believed that Liu Jun might have picked up the deadly mushrooms by mistake. The people should learn from the incident that mushrooms should not be cooked without having proper information. It is difficult to differentiate between healthy mushrooms and deadly mushrooms. Unless and until guidelines are issued by the authorities people are advised not to consume mushrooms.
It has been informed that the mushrooms which were consumed by the deceased are the world’s most deadly mushrooms. It has further been informed that one who consumes deadly mushroom might feel sick for a while. But later on the illness automatically diminishes. However, it returns in aggressive mood and may lead to one’s death within 48 hours of consuming it.
