DASH: The Best Diet, Overall

The Best Diet, OverallThe US News & World Report announced that the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet has topped the list of overall best diet category. The diet, which is being promoted by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, is basically meant for high blood pressure patients.

The main constituents of this diet are rich in potassium, magnesium and calcium which are good means for lowering or controlling the blood pressure of a person.

This diet has topped the charts as it does not force a person to follow a set pattern of diet. If one wants to have junk then it provides healthy alternates to it. Majorly, the diet comprise of plenty of vegetables, fruits and low-fat dairy products and whole grains breads, fish, poultry and nuts.

The main problem comes when one is asked to follow a diet. People generally associate it with only salads and lots of fluids. But, DASH is quite opposite to this thinking. This diet promotes a person to consume those things which he should be having and restricts those food items which are unhealthy for him.

Some of the other diets that followed DASH diet were: Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) diet, Mediterranean Diet, the Mayo Clinic Diet, Volumetrics Diet, Gout diet and low fibre diet.

Except it, Weight Watchers was named as the best diet in the category meant for to lose weight. However, it was also said that this diet is expensive and is quite similar to a conventional diet.

But, its results have been exceptionally great. The Biggest Loser diet was termed the best diet for diabetic patients as this diet helps a person to prevent reversal of the disease. It also has the same problem as that entertained by Weight Watchers diet: it is quite costly as well.
