If you think that obesity is only related to humans, then you need to reconsider your thought. It has been recently found that more than half of the pets in the U. S. are fighting the bulge. In order to help these pets lose those extra kilos, Nestle has announced an online programme.
This programme invites pet owners to sign up and help their furry friends to lose weight. This programme would have three fat cats and two overweight dogs which would narrate their stories from being fat to fit.
There would be short movies, before-and-after pictures, tips for pet exercises, weight monitor schemes, food for pets and opportunity to share photos of their pets with other users.
The programme would be limited for dogs and cats only, said Purina and Jenny Craig, from the weight management unit of Nestle.
This is not the only movement as the British Pet Health Council, which is an association of veterinary and medical professionals, has also initiated similar kind of movement known as Petsercise. They have organized this programme with the help of Mars Petcare. They have been offering a health and fitness programme for pets and their owners.
This shows that though the US is being hit hard by the economic downturn, pets have been excused from this penny-pinch pain. This is the treason that now industry has targeted two most important things that affect humans: obesity and pets.
The trend is here to stay, said experts. The Euromonitor reckons, a data agency informed that the sales of pet foods in the US would increase by 23% between 2011 and 2015. On this, Nestle has acted smart by introducing an anti-obesity programme which would target both obesity as well as pets.
