Recent reports have found that a cannabis-based mouth spray could be a major device that could help the people to quit their habit of smoking as well as marijuana. It has been revealed by a group of researchers that instead of users of nicotine patches and methadone, cannabis spray is a good option of getting rid of their habit as it does not compel them to quit the habit abruptly.
It is believed that the withdrawal of cannabis spray can lead to symptoms such as pot cravings, mood swings and insomnia. Along with these, disrupted sleep, anger and difficulty functioning are also a few of the common symptoms of withdrawal of cannabis as well as the major reason of deterioration. Though the symptoms are not fatal, they can cause concern, thus easily making people to be uncomfortable and use the drugs again, says researcher Jan Copeland.
The researchers at the University of NSW have carried out that the sprays available in the market lack CBD in them, in spite of being considered as a good cannabinoid, and contain THC that gets people stoned. On the contrary, the drug Sativex is a combination of the two main cannabinoids i. e. tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), which give it the required potential.
In favour of the context, Copeland, who is a Professor, said, “The good thing about Sativex, it returns CBD to the compound, and in treating symptoms of withdrawal it can dampen down the effects of THC on the patients' receptor systems without them getting stoned”.
But, Dr. Sagnik Bhattacharya is of the opinion that a further research yet needs to be performed as strong evidence has been seen of a relation between THC and psychosis, though ingredients like CBD in cannabis can prove to be useful enough for psychiatric conditions.
