It has been revealed in a report that people, who eat red meat in large amount on a frequent basis, are at a risk of getting stroke. It has been revealed by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health. They have also found that unlike it, consumption of poultry reduces the risk howsoever.
Two health surveys were performed by the researchers, in which thousands of people from middle age to old age were enrolled. It found out over a period of 20 years of the study that nearly about 1,400 men and 2,600 women had got stroke. The researchers segregated the people enrolled for the survey on the basis of their daily consumption of red meat, dairy, poultry and fish as well as varied other high-protein diets.
After the analysis, they concluded that the risk rate of stroke in those consuming above two servings of red meat daily, is comparatively high than those who consume a third of one serving.
Stroke is one of the major diseases that is causing higher rate of deaths in the US. As per the data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 26 in every 1000 people have already been experiencing a stroke in the country. Stroke is known to be caused due to blood clotting or bursting of a blood vessel. The latter stops the flow of the blood to the brain.
The team of researchers and scientists suggested that eating protein-rich diet is undoubtedly good for health but what matters is the type of protein being consumed. "The main message from this paper is that the type of protein or the protein package is really important for the risk of stroke. We have to consider protein in the context of the foods", said Dr. Frank Hu, a Professor and one of the researchers from the team.
