Are Obese Patients Worth Referring To Zoos Now?

Obese-patients-zoosWhile obesity is being seen as a contentious issue across the world, obese are being seen under dim light always. They are most of the times seen as an object of mockery and this is what is truly reflected in a recent report which indicated that Overweight patients must be checked in zoos. Even the Royal Veterinary College has made it clear that there is significant rise in demand of heavy-duty CAT scanner, which is told to be used for horses. This report has showed the dismal state of overweight people who are being treated as a burden. The RVC has added that its equine hospital at Hatfield, Herts, has many custom-built scanners, and this is what has caught the attention of the NHS which is seeking to get them so as to track the rising weight of such bulky patients.

There are many, including Tam Fry, of the National Obesity Forum, who admits the existence of zoo referrals, but he has made it clear that the NHS must not treat this issue with so much of disgrace. Thos patients are part of society and must be given their due respect despite their appearance.

“It’s a sorry state of affairs when we need to use horse scanners on people”, said Will Williams, a dietician with All About Weight. “It’s an awful shame we’ve got to this stage and just goes to show that the obesity epidemic is running away with us”.

Even Riaz Dharamshi, a geriatric registrar at London’s St Mary’s Hospital, admits that there are many including him who are being told to treat obese, comparable to animals. This fact cannot be ignored that obesity is nothing less than a challenge for countries across the world, but to make is plane mockery for those who are suffering with this is no solution.
