A study that appeared in the journal Diabetes Care has revealed that a chocolate is beneficial for the women with type 2 diabetes. The research that was taken out at the University of East Anglia (UEA) has claimed that chocolate and cocoa decline the risk of heart attack among these women.
The one-year-long study has affirmed that chocolate and cocoa are rich in flavonoids, which protect heart from high risk of cardiovascular events. If one does not relish chocolate or products made from it then he could opt for the products which are rich in flavonoids.
Some of the food products in which flavonoids are present are berries, tea and chocolate. Before indulging in your chocolate fantasy, the study researchers suggested that their study does not acts as a license for diabetic women to eat many chocolates.
Commercial chocolates don’t have much of flavonoids and increases weight. So, it would be better to binge on smartly and maintain a balanced diet. One of the researchers Prof Aedin Cassidy from the UEA affirmed, “These results are significant from a public health perspective because they provide further concrete evidence that diet has a beneficial clinical effect over and above conventional drug treatment”.
Cassidy informed that flavonoids are bioactive constituents which benefit a lot to diabetic women. The chocolate bars they used in the experiment were specially imported from Belgium. So they knew their authenticity, but they cannot take responsibility of other chocolates which are rich in fats but low in flavonoids.
The study that was funded by the Diabetes UK also revealed that flavonoids help maximum to the women who are passing through post menopausal stage. They even proved the same in their experiment.
So, the women who could really get assorted flavonoids rich chocolates should start munching to avoid heart strokes.
