An infant and brother of three years old leukaemia patient would be helpful in saving his life. Samuel Shorey is the little angel who by giving his stem cells would act as a lifesaver for his elder brother Nathan Shorey.
However, Nathan’s doctor has said that they would take Samuel’s umbilical cord gathered stem cells only at the time if Nathan’s condition would deteriorate. The parents, Melanie, 34, and Michael, 36, said that they are quite happy that Samuel’s stem cells have matched with that of Nathan’s. They now hope that everything gets fine.
Melanie said that it was in 2010 when they got to know about Nathan’s condition. She narrated that she saw a rash on his thighs and arms and took him to doctor at the Wansbeck General Hospital. Here he was admitted for overnight observation and next day was shifted to another hospital North Tyneside General Hospital where his blood reports confirmed that he has leukaemia.
For both of them it was the end of their happy world. They just wondered that he is so little to face such hardships. But his brother Samuel proved to be true Santa for him, said Melanie.
Nathan is doing fine since last 19 months and his doctors said they are ready to face any further complication. Melanie said, “The chance of Nathan relapsing is thought to be low, but when I found out that stem cells could be taken from the umbilical cord I felt it was the right thing to do”.
Both the brothers love each other immensely, said mother of four Melanie, who further affirmed that Samuel has been great addition to the family. He is truly God’s own child.
Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary is the place where Nathan is being treated and has started undergoing regular chemotherapy sessions.
