It has been reported that inadequate funding by the government is severely impacting children as the new hospital beds of the sicken children are lying empty. The number of beds were increased with the pursuit of providing care to the children.
In Monash Children's new ward, about 19 new beds were introduced, however only 2 beds are currently in use. These beds were introduced so that more of the patients could be treated unless and until Clayton hospital is built. It has been informed that $250 million has been invested for the construction of the hospital.
It will take another four months for the hospital to open. The medical professionals have blamed the government for not providing with adequate funds. The funding of the government for long has been a subject of criticism.
It has been claimed by many that the global financial tightening has led to a number of cuts in the health sector which has directly or indirectly impacted the way treatment has been provided to patients. Unless and until adequate funding is made patients’ care would be sacrificed.
It has been pointed out that about six out of 20 cots of Casey Hospital's Special Care Nursery are in use. Australian Medical Association Victorian Vice-President Dr Stephen Parnis was reported as saying, ”'We are talking about the acute health of children - if that isn't arguably the highest priority for the government then I don't know what should be”.
It is uncertain as to what will be the future of the hospitals in the coming time if the government doesn’t do much to deal with growing menace of inadequacy of funds. Immediate steps are required to be taken by the government to improve the working of the hospitals.
