Australians Suffer From Vitamin D Deficiency, Claims Research

Vitamin DIn one of its kind study, it has been revealed recently that Australians are suffering heavily from vitamin D deficiency. The study has claimed that one in the group of three Australians suffers from vitamin D deficiency.

The study researchers said some of the common problems that are being associated with deficiency of vitamin D are said to osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, dementia, eye sight loss.

The study reached at able conclusion by surveying a large number of people in which 11, 000 people said to suffer from vitamin D deficiency. Some of the people who were at an increased risk of having vitamin D deficiency were women, aged people, and overweight and the ones who are Europeans.

It is not the first time that a study has been done to show the potential harms of vitamin D deficiency. But certainly it is the first one for Australia which has revealed about the overall prevalence of vitamin D deficiency.

One of the researchers Professor Peter Ebeling said, “Vitamin D deficiency is recognized as a global public health problem but the population-based prevalence of deficiency and its reach in Australia has never previously been properly examined”.

Women and elderly people are two categories which are prime targets of vitamin D deficiency. But it is very rare that overweight people are being included in such kind of deficiencies. There is a reason for it, said Ebeling.

He affirmed that form last 20 years Australia is witnessing an increased number of obesity cases which reduces their physical output. So they longer go to beaches to have sun exposure and also do not step out from home during day for walks.

So, everything in totality affects and gifts them with vitamin D deficiency. So it is better to have vitamin D supplements and food rich in it, said Ebeling.
